  1. Excuses usually don’t work. Rather try to show them that you have worked hard on those topics and now mastered them.
  2. Usually showing up on time and doing the work expected of you is enough to gain the favor of your supervisor. I don’t know of a shortcut.
  3. Usually, when you assign a recommender, they change the university name in the LOR before sending it. If your recommender is hesitant to spend that much time on your application, you might ask them to write without mentioning the university or professor's name.
